Holiday gift ideas for RV and camper owners on your shopping list

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

Get ready for the holidays with our essential RV gift guide that includes ideas for both weekenders and full-timers.

Portable folding hammock

The very first gift we received after we bought our truck camper was an ENO hammock. And we love it. It packs up inside of itself, making it compact and therefore it takes up very little room in your RV or backpack. Don’t forget to get the tree straps. Find it on Amazon.

Camping apparel and housewares

I can’t talk about gifts without shamelessly self-promoting my Etsy shop, where I sell shirts, digital prints, ball caps and mugs with a camping theme. I generate no profit from sales, donating everything I receive to our favorite autism charity because we have two family members on the autism spectrum. Show your love for us and enjoy a 10% discount with code FORYOULS10.

Protect your investment

A must-have is a surge protector to keep an RV electrical system from getting fried if the campground has bad wiring or lightning strikes. We use the Hughes Power Watchdog Smart Surge Protector and pair it with an outdoor cables lock. We like this one from Camco. One feature we like is the ability to connect to your smartphone via an app so you can monitor it.

The best travel towels

We learned early on that the big, bulky and slow-to-dry towels we brought from home for our weekend trips were not going to cut it. Full-time RVer Jen of Stairs Up Handle In told us about Turkish towels. It was entirely coincidental that she posted about them the same weekend we were sitting at a wet campground with regular bath towels from home that never dried out. Our camper was drowning in humidity and our wet bath towels were not helping the condensation situation at all. We ordered the same towels she recommended, and while acknowledging they take getting used to, they are lightweight, compact and dry very quickly.

RV humidity control

Speaking of condensation, we also recommend a dehumidifier. Condensation can wreak havoc on an RV, damaging walls, wood, cabinetry, floors and cause mold to form. We kept hearing the name Eva-Dry, so we did a little research and learned they were compact, which is a big plus since space is limited in our truck camper. Find them on Amazon.

Portable fire pit

Who doesn’t love a good fire at their campsite? Unfortunately, a traditional wood fire comes with some drawbacks. There may be fire bans or outside firewood restrictions at the campground, plus they require much more attention. Sometimes you’re just ready to go to bed but you want to make sure the fire is completely out before heading into the rig for the night. A portable propane fire pit is safe and clean, and with one flip of a switch you can say goodnight. We like this one from Amazon. It’s smoke-free, which we like because our gray water tank is tiny, so we don’t have the luxury of frequently washing the campfire smell from our hair.

KOUSa Cushion

I’m eyeing these blankets that are both pretty and functional (hint, hint to my family). Because space is limited in a truck camper AND I’m always cold, these would serve a dual purpose in being both decorative plus they would keep me warm. The only problem is deciding on the design! They come in a wide variety of colors and styles.

Trekking poles

Chances are your favorite RV owner is hitting the trails around the campsite. Trekking poles can help keep a hiker stable, especially on a steep incline, rough terrain, or crossing streams. Find them on Amazon.
