10 books that will inspire you on the open road

Whether you’re on the road and looking for a good read, planning your next trip, or researching the camping and RV lifestyle, below are some books that would make great travel buddies.

Cooking

Melissa Webb has created a super fun cookbook called Recipes of the Modern RVer. The book features more than 30 RV-friendly recipes, plus stories about the contributors.

So Camp Cocktails isn’t about cooking exactly, but how fun is this book? It features advice for how to plan, pack and make drinks in the great outdoors. After watching Will wind electrical tape around the tops of my liquor bottles before we head out on a trip, it’s cool to see an entire section of this book devoted to transporting spirits.

Trip planning

If traveling to all 50 states is on your bucket list, 50 States, 5,000 Ideas: Where to Go, When to Go, What to See, What to Do is beautifully illustrated and organized with plenty of facts and ideas to keep you and your travel companions busy.

Despite the number of GPS navigators, Google Maps, websites, trip planning apps and tools out there, a good ole Road Atlas is still handy to have on hand. We opened ours just the other day to compare against some GPS coordinates so we could scout out a dispersed campsite.

Trip tracking

I couldn’t write a blog post about books without plugging our own Camping Journal, a travel logbook to record your adventures. The journal helps you capture important campsite information and even includes a few helpful lists for both new and veteran campers. Plus, I painted the artwork for the cover.

We don’t own this book, but My Camping Adventures looks like a fun way to get your kids involved in the trip and would be a great keepsake.

RV Lifestyle

If you have considered going full time or are a first time RV buyer, Take Risks may be the book for you.

Living the RV Life guides you through the transition from the sticks and bricks life to life on the road.

Entertainment

We heard an interview with the author of Be More Dog: Learning to Live in the Now and I had to have this book. It’s a memoir with an important message. Plus, I just love dogs.

An uplifting and entertaining read, Forward, Upward, Onward has life lessons for hikers and non-hikers alike.
